Weekly Update from your local Bablake NPT
Dear Members
Here’s your weekly update from myself and the rest of the team.
What’s Been Happening
Darker Nights Remember the clocks will be changing on SUNDAY 26TH OCTOBER where they fall back for autumn meaning the evenings get darker earlier. This can increase the risk of burglary and other crimes, as criminals take advantage of early darkness. Please think about your home security. Two burglaries have been reported on BUTT LANE and BEXHILL WALK and two attempts on BENSON ROAD and KELMSCOTE ROAD. Don’t Get Spooked this Halloween Here is a parent’s guide to keeping children and teenagers safe.
Trick or Treating Safety Tips:
We ask that children and teenagers do not visit homes that display a “no trick-or-treat” sign as this time of year can be unsettling for many. You can download a copy at www.westmidlands.police.uk/contentassets/90999e3997874460a91345fe903a7066/3100-nw080923a-b-trick-or-treat-poster.pdf
Across Holbrooks Sherbourne and Bablake Previously an individual in HOLBROOKS that repeatedly called 999 without a genuine emergency was issued with a Community Protection Notice. In one month alone we received approximately 70 calls. This notice formally required them stop misusing the 9’s. On Monday the individual was arrested by our officers for continuing to telephone the emergency number. They will now be going to Court. Community Protection Notices are serious and may result in a fine up to £2,500 for individuals and possible criminal prosecution and a Criminal Behaviour Order.
In the News As well as us, your dedicated Neighbourhood Team, there's other teams and departments that keep the area and the city safe too.
On 16th October an attempt was made to steal a car off a driveway in Coventry. The thieves were disturbed, Police informed and passed information on the getaway vehicle. Colleagues from Warwickshire OPU spotted the vehicle and followed it through the city, in an attempt to get away the thieves rammed them.
A pursuit of the vehicle then ensued, and Coventry ANPR Team got involved. A stinger point was set up which was successful. The thieves decided to abandon their vehicle and made a run for it through HOLBROOKS PARK.
Unlucky for this pair, one of the Police Teams in pursuit were our dog units. PD Scout was deployed and sent on the chase after them, quickly catching and detaining the driver. The passenger continued to make a run for it, probably presuming the Police Dog was too busy with his ‘mate’. However, PD Ugo and handler were also in attendance and soon caught up.
The abandoned vehicle was found to be stolen and on false plates. The driver was also wanted and had been "on the run" since 2023.
This is just one example of the excellent teamwork that happens by various teams and police forces. These prolific offenders won't be targeting vehicles for quite some time!
Until next week Stay safe everyone and have a spooktacular Halloween.
